Last night we were all tuned into our computers to check out the fashion during one of the most antecipated red carpets of the year. It was the 2012 Met Gala, an event which the fashion can only be compared to the Oscars’s - only with a dash of avant garde!
The Costume Institute Gala (or Costume Institute Ball), known as the Met Ball and nicknamed the “Oscars of the East Coast”, is an annual ball that celebrates the annual opening of the Metropolitan Museum’s (The Met) fashion exhibit at the Costume Institute. The red carpet evening where celebrities arrive dressed to impress is described as the fashion industry’s “Night of Nights”.
Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour oversees both the benefit committee and the guest list, although Vogue staffers help assemble the list of celebrity invitees. Each year the ball has a different theme, honoring a household name in fashion. This year, the Vogue sponsored night honored Miuccia Prada and Elza Schiaparelli.
This event has been growing each year and last night’s crowd was a mix of A list celebrities, fashion VIPs and noticeables from many fields. But the most important of them all was the fashion (yaaay!). Here is a list of the most trend worthy looks, styles you will want to copy for the rest of 2012.
Cut outs were spotted in many variations, lengths and colours: from fringes to laces they were seen in Emily Blunt and Milla Jovovich (in Prada).
Bringing “sexy back”: this was the wow factor of the looks from Gwyneth Paltrow (in Prada), Kate Bosworth (in Prada), Renne Zellweger and Rihanna
The 20’s are oh so hot right now. One of the many trends from the decade, feathers, was spotted in these gorgeous looks from Amy Poheler, Beyonce (in Givenchy), Cate Blanchet and Diane Kruger (in Prada)
Hide and seek: another hot trend for the night was long transparent skirts.Heidi Klum, Marion Cottillard and Rooney Mara rocked the look.
Tangerine tango was picked by Pantone as the colour for 2012, so it is only natural to see these dresses on the Met Gala red carpet. Eva Mendes (in Prada), Ginnifer Goodwin (in Givenchy) and Katharine McPhee were only a few that donned the colour.
2012 may be the year of the tangerine, but red has already become a classic. Jaime King, Chelsea Clinton, Emma Stone and Hillary Swank were the ladies in red
We all had already seen at the Oscars red carpet that white was one of the hot “colours” for 2012. And it was no different at the Met Gala. Anna Wintour (the devil wore Prada!!) set the tone that was beautifully followed by Claire Danes and Isla Fisher
Prints were nowhere to hide for the Met gowns. Floral proved to be both modern and romantic, but gorgeous in every style. The ever trendsetter SJP showed us all how to rock the look.
Metalic dresses were one of the hottest trends of the night. Whether it be light pastels or golden + silver combo, these looks proved that metalic is one of the major trends for 2012.Love Camila Belle with the dark lips + metalic dress. Completelly overlooking Cameron’s Something about Mary’s hair… Loving Lana del Rey’s dress + cape!
Of course this wouldn’t be a must have list without black dresses. This year the Met Gala fashion showed us that LBDs don’t have to be so L and so boring. They were as intricate as all other trends we listed - and oh so versatile! They were spotted in leather, as seen on Rosario Dawson (love that dress!!), sparkled on Giselle (in Givenchy) and Liv Tyler and were very unique as seen on Ashley Olsen
Another major trend: dark red/ burgundy lips! Go get it now!! ;)
Optical effect pieces can be a major ally for the perfect sillouette. But you have to wear it right - or else, it can accentuate the very parts you are trying to disguise.
There has to be some caution with this trend, too. You won’t want to end up looking cheap or trashy. So, don’t overdo on the transparency.
This trend is oh so hot! and has been spotted everywhere lately. Stella McCartney did a gorgeous collection with many optical effects pieces to die for.
Gwen Stefani rocking three trends at once: peplum, one piece and optical effect. The rocker wears a Stella McCartney black silk jumpsuit with sheer cutouts, Christian Louboutin heels and her hair up in a messy updo at the L.A. premiere of Paul McCartney’s music video for his single “My Valentine”. Love the pop of red lips (fourth tred spotted!!) with the all black outfit.
Same event, same designer, same trend, different dress. Kate Moss shows how to rock the trend in a LBD
Same event, yet another Stella design - catching the evening’s theme, anyone? :) Rumor Willis and Liberty Rose shine on the red carpet.
Same dress, different colour. Miranda Kerr in the LBD version at Paul McCartney’s new video premiere
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in a fast fashion version for Marks and Spencer. Brooklyn Decker in Stella McCartney.
Iasmin Lebon in a longer version of Kate’s dress at the same event
Kate Winslet in a polka dot version, also in Stella McCartney
Kate Bosworth at the post Oscars Vanity Fair party and the runway look for Prabal Gurung A/W 12-13 show.
Victoria Beckham in a b&w Alexander McQueen dress
The always avantgarde Viktor & Rolf were one fo the first enthusiastics to the tren back in their Spring 10 show
They have been around for a while now.So, if you haven’t got a pair yet, you absolutely should “Go Get it Now” ! They have been seen everywhere, from street fashion, to red carpets, to runways - and that means that they will still be stylish for a few more seasons to come.
There is a style for every style. Find yours and go rock your own pair of red slacks!
Rachel Bilsen showing how it’s done on the red carpet. For her show’s network party she wore red Erdem carrot pants topped with a floral shirt from the same lable and leopard print pumps. Red + animal print + floral = H.O.T.
To choose the perfect accessories to go with your red pants, the secret is colour coordination. The best choices vary from black, brown, blue, nude and white. Kate Bosworth shows how to mix red with nude.
Street fashion in two different styles. Red pants can go from casual to classic.
Red slacks: runway version. They go really well as high waisted and with lace tops.
Alessandra Ambrosio in her pair with white flats.
In red leather!
Again with a floral shirt, in a cool street fashion style.
In a darker shade with leopard prints and black leather
With a pink jacket and nude accessories
Lauren Conrad in tomatoe red Joe’s jeans in three different ocasions
Jessica Alba on a playdate with daughter mix her red jeans with a cheery striped top
At another playdate, another pair of red slacks. Miranda Kerr rocking her out and about with her son
You have seen here the Mulberry pool party at Coachella 2012. Mulberry showed absolutelly gorgeous pieces at the A/W show 2012. We are sooo in love with the collection that we decided to have an entire post about it.
Mulberry showed in London Fashion Week on February, 18th, at the Claridges ballroom.
The show opened to the sound of lions roaring and continued along a Where the Wild Things Are theme (noticed the monsters at the pool party?), with, at one point, Iggy Pop’s Real Wild Child* blasting through the speakers (echoes of Pretty Woman, anyone?). Tones were varying shades of caramel and hair and make-up were really simple. Hair was plaited, mussed up and pinned atop the models’ heads and skin was dewy, glowing, with defined brows and otherwise very natural shades. Highlights were the hand-knitted woollens, the multicolour zany zig zag that adorned varying items from coats to bags (you heard it here already that 2012 will be the year of the print - check out the printed slacks post) and, of course, the bags – though the Del Ray was getting column inches due to its star “hook”, my favourite was the Lily shoulder bag with chain handle.
A lot of the styling - layer upon layer, gilet over jacket over dress with chunky heels – reminded me of modern street fashion. That’s not to say that it wasn’t well put together – it was – or that there weren’t a lot of items in the line-up that I would kill to have in my wardrobe - though it felta bit too excessive on the mongolian sheepskin that didn’t even do the models any favours.
Though Alexa was missing from the front row (she made an appearance at the evening dinner), the shine didn’t cease from the glimmering teeth and snap-happy camera clicks that the rest of the FROW had to offer. Mulb pulled in the seriously elite, including Michelle Williams, Olivia Palermo, Azealia Banks, Elizabeth Olsen, Pixie Geldof, Tinie Tempah and, the most talked-about woman of the moment, Lana Del Rey, who was seemingly obliged to attend after the small accolade of having a Mulberry bag named after her. I mean, it would have been rude not to! And so a hats-off to the Mulberry PR team for running around like headless chickens (most likely) to bag a FROW as overwhelming as that one.
Now, as expected, I cooed at the zig-zag stud detailing (just look at that bag!), the clashing textures and furs and autumnal dresses. Of course, the accessories stole the limelight as they do at every Mulberry show – the wedge booties and new Alexa bags were catching everyone’s eye.
Introducing the Zig-Zag Alexa bag. Seriously hot!
Zoom in the zig-zag
Adorable studded tassel flats.
You have seen Coachella fashion of the celebs here. But Coachella is such a big festival - not only music-wise :) - that only one post on its fashion was most definitely not enough.
There was a number of inspiring outfits outside of VIP areas and private parties. So we decided to show the street fashion of Coachella, too. :)
Pieces from Zara
Alexander Wang top, Helmut Lang top and Alexander Wang bag
Vintage shoes and Mimi Chica leopard/ giraffe print skirt
Hair and make up to perfection.
The omnipresent Isabel Marant wedge sneakers
We have all heard about the 80,000 music fans from all around the world that gathered in the heart of Indio, CA for the 2012 Coachella Valley Music Festival. Florence and the Machine, Snoop Dogg & Dr. Dre, Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys, Beirut, Kasabian, Metronomy, The Black Keys and Swedish House Mafia are only a handful of artists that comprises the awesome line-up. And there is all the fashion on top of it!! :)
Feelin’ Groovy, everybody got into the laid-back style of the festival. See it for yourself:
Joshua Jackson and Diane Kruger: the cute couple coordinates in cool complementary stripes (plus a Jerome Dreyfuss bag for her).
Katy Perry in a see through hippie dress with hot pants and new hair colour.
Kate Bosworth in yet another fashion moment. When she wasn’t in all-Mulberry (as seen here), Kate donned nude booties, short-shorts and a vintage-inspired Isabel Marant shirt. Next, she was ready to rock in a floral print dress and Hunter wellies.
Another Coachella fashion plate, Emma arrives in a lacy black crop top, printed pants and a fedora; changes into a leather jacket, cutoffs and a pink top (all by A|X) for the Armani Exchange party; and rocks mini floral shorts and a neutral tank during another round of the shows.
Lauren Conrad in a long white top and striped skirt from Lacoste with a Juicy Couture topper with Lea Michele in all Lacoste at the brand’s party during the Festival. When not partying, LC enjoys the shows from a VIP seating in leopard print skinny ankle cropped Free People jeans in Ditzy Olive, Hunter wellies and chunky sweater.
Fergie makes quite a statement in an ivory maxi, stylish fringe vest and aviator shades.
Nina Dobrev in a watermelon AG Adriano Goldschmied maxi and Rachel Zoe Collection sandals and in a blue dress and flats all by Mulberry, including the Lilly bag.
Vanessa Hudgens paraded around Coachella in various different looks. This laid back number got her in touch with her inner hippies.
A well-behaved Lindsay Lohan was stunning in a white lace dress, matching wodden booties, bright yellow shades and lovely mint green Chloe bag.
Emma Watson was most likely in a different season, though absolutely gorgeous! Emma rocked the furry vest with jeans and boots.
DJ Harley Viera-Newton rocked in Charlotte Olympia kitty flats and Dior bag.
And it’s not over yet - there’s plenty more next weekend. Keep an eye out for the fashion! ;)
You all know that Coachella Music Festival is taking place this weekend. And for the rest of us, who (unfortunatelly) were not able to go :( , we are left with the pictures (and the fashion!!).
During the festival, Mulberry hosted a barbeque and pool party at The Parker hotel, in Palm Springs, to give the A-list guests at Coachella festival a chance to relax. Lucky for us, they also cleverly had the Autumn/Winter 2012 collection on hand, hoping to boost their Hollywood profile further. It’s not all fun and games remember, Mulberry are a mega brand.
Guests ate chicken, shrimp, vegetable kebabs and Mr Parker’s Salads followed by lemonade popsicles and got friendly with Mulberry’s monster cushions, inspired by the children’s book Where The Wild Things Are.
Emma Watson took a break from filming The Bling Ring with Sofia Coppola, and partied with Lily Collins. They are both in Mulberry and carrying Lily handbags.
Mulberry monsters floated in the pool
Kate Bosworth wore a Mulberry tiger t-shirt and a “Lily” handbag
Dree Hemingway wore a Dolce & Gabbana skirt and crop top. I’m soooo in love with crop tops right now! Chek out the red peppers print on Dree’s outfit.
Emma, again. She looked gorgeous in an animal print jumpsuit!
Emma Hill (Mulberry’s creative director) wore a white lace dress from the Spring 2012 collection.
More of Mulberry and of Festival styles to come…stay online ;)
Liv Tyler vs Rihanna
The actress wears her Givenchy sweater as a tunic with black tights and black blazer, while the singer goes edgier, adding leather leggings and sunnies. I love this Givenchy piece - from men’s collection - , but who do you think carries it better?
Fun fact: Fashion faceoff round two: Kanye gets into the rink
Do you think Kanye can beat the girls?
Anne Hathaway vs Chelsea Handler
Talk about a versitile dress! The actress keeps her Elizabeth and James dress casual with sandals and sunnies during the day, while the TV host dresses hers up with two-tone pumps on the red carpet.
Who do you think got it right? Is this a day or night dress?
Whether it’s the entire look as seen on the runway or a styled version caught on the red carpet, it is first and far most a matter of personal style. Simply ControlC + ControlV a look from a show is not enough. You have to make it your own and reinvent it à sa façon.
See how these starlets adapted runway looks and tried to make it their own.
